About Us

Hi, my name is Beggar Dog and I am the good looking guy you see on the outside of the Beggar Dog Biscuit Box. I thought I would tell you a little bit about me and how I came up with these great biscuits. The truth is I didn't!
Beggar Dog Biscuits was the dream of one man, Mike Tobey and one dog, your's truly. Mike lives in Portland , Oregon where I met him and our adventure began. You see I have spent pretty much all of my live long days roaming the world. And in my travels I've come across more dog biscuits than you can shake a stick at -some good, some so bad I wouldn't feed them to a human. I met Mike way back when he was showing fancy dogs at dog shows. You see, Mike isn't just your average Joe. He got to know me and some of my canine friends while raising Airedale Terrier show dogs for more than 20 years. Mike was pretty good with my Airedale buddies. You can see some of them in the second and third publication of The Complete Airedale . Well like I said, Mike was pretty good at what he did and wound up competing on a national level exhibiting his dogs from coast to coast. My Airedale buddies who belonged to Mike won 6 Airedale Bowls at National Specialties and Lord knows how many other Best in Show awards. Whoopee! Pretty impressive stuff huh? And if that wasn't enough Mike owned and operated a commercial boarding kennel for my friends for more than ten years as well as working with local animal shelters.
During the years, Mike and I talked a lot about, well what else, dogs. The whole idea for Beggar Dog Biscuits came up one day when I told Mike that we needed to have a healthy baked all-natural dog biscuit after some well meaning human friend gave me one of those biscuits I told you about earlier, ya know, the kind I wouldn't even feed to a human. Mike, being the dog guy he is, more dog than guy, agreed. We both knew then and now that nutrition is a key element in the fitness and beauty of a dog. When we started this, most of the available dog biscuits and treats were laden in fats, artificial colors, flavorings and preservatives, which were difficult for me and my buddies to digest, and then again there was that nasty taste thing going on.
Well, that was all it took. Mike and I began to play around with recipes for a biscuit that was not only healthy and all natural, but tasty too. After all, it had to taste good to me if I was going to ask my buddies to eat em. Once we came up with the right recipe we began to make biscuits. This process was a lot of work and fun. Boy oh boy, could I tell you some stories! Well maybe later.
Needless to say, we make great biscuits, I personally love them, but so do a lot of my friends. You can hear from them yourself on the testimonial page.
My buddy Mike and I and the other folks at Beggar Dog Biscuits have been making biscuits ever since. You can find them now in more than 1000 stores across Oregon , Washington , Idaho , Montana , Alaska , Utah , Arizona , and North Dakota .. We figure it won't be long before we have biscuits available in all of California , Texas and heck, who knows, maybe clear across the country. After all, why shouldn't our other friends enjoy the best biscuits in the world!
I got a secret to share with you. I think you know that I am pretty proud of those biscuits that bear my name. I liked them so much, I asked the folks at Beggar Dog to make a second flavor, Turkey and Brown Rice. You know what, they did. The same great quality, natural ingredients and scrumptious taste! The folks at Beggar Dog tell me that they are now available for us to eat! I have sure been lookin' forward to em, and boy I am not disappointed. They are delicious! I bet you can't wait to try them too. Make sure and let me know what you think.
Well folks, I hope that you have gotten to know a little bit more about me and Beggar Dog Biscuits, Inc. I personally want to thank you for buying our great product. After all, we worked real hard to make it especially for you. I hope some of you have the time to write back and let me know what you think. It's been great getting to know you to.
